Yummy treats for mum
BY ALICE CHING
The last thing that we want our mothers to do on Mother’s Day is to cook!
Since most mothers are prone to accommodating everyone else’s demands when it comes to preparing the daily family meals, why not indulge your Mum and take her to a nice outlet this weekend?
Here are a few suggestions:
PETER HOE EVOLUTION & BEYOND
Pork-free
No 145 Jalan Tun H.S. Lee
2nd Floor Lee Rubber Building
50000 Kuala Lumpur
20269788, 20262788
|
LEFT: Decorative ware at Peter Hoe. |
THIS spacious boutique in Chinatown is a
haven for trendy and artistically-inclined
mothers.
It has an amazing selection of stylish
apparels, decorative home ware, whimsical
bric-a-bracs and handmade jewellery
that you can get for mum before dinner.
Nice, no?
The cosy little café ensconced within the
boutique has some great eats and a nice
cuppa.
We recommend the scrumptious, ovenfresh
quiches (RM15 per serving) that come in myriad flavours such as onion and tomato, asparagus and tomato, broccoli and carrot, and Chinese mushrooms and tomato.
Equally good are the refreshingly tangy
lemon pie, sinful Mississippi mud pie, luscious cheesecake and yummy carrot and
walnut cake — all at RM6 per slice.

Teochew Fish Head Treasure Broth at Oriental Cravings. |
THIS Italian-American, quickservice restaurant offers more than just pizzas.
Modern mums who are always on-the-go and who
enjoy sampling new culinary creations will be smitten with their crusty panini sandwiches, hearty pastas, roast chicken,
salmon steak with rice, fresh salads, grilled chicken wings and delicious desserts.
The choice of 14 pizzas will leave your mum quite spoilt for choice. Besides perennial
favourites such as Hawaii (chicken bologna, pineapple and onion rings) and double beef
pepperoni, Vivo’s mouth-watering versions include Romeo & Juliet (turkey ham, fresh mushroom, tomato, onion and pineapple), Meaty Monster (chicken bologna, turkey ham,
sausages and pepperoni), Sambal Seafood and Thai Chicken. Prices vary between RM9.90 (7-inch) and RM22.90 (13-inch).
Their panini garlic bread is fresh and crisp, and is great with a light spread of butter, lots of finely chopped garlic and parsley.
Thumbs up also to the Spaghetti with Smoked Salmon and Cream Sauce (RM13.80), tiramisu (RM5.80) and the blueberry dessert pizza (RM5.80).
The last seems a little quirky but the ultra-thin and crisp pizza base with blueberry topping and a scoop of vanilla icecream is irresistible!
Vivo is offering a Mother’s Day set meal (RM49.90 for 4 persons) comprising a 10-inch
pizza of your choice, a serving of delicious chicken wings, soup for four and garlic bread. End your meal with a delightful piece of mango mousse cake.
