BUBBA Gump Shrimp Co. offers diners several options for starters, main course and dessert during Ramadan.

During the holy month, the company is introducing a new value-for-money set menu for all to enjoy.

Bubba Gump, an American casual dining seafood restaurant, is famous for its shrimp.

Inspired by the 1994 film Forrest Gump, the company is named after the movie’s two main characters, Bubba Blue and Forrest Gump, who had the desire to go into the shrimp industry.

The restaurant in Citta Mall, Ara Damansara, seats 185 people and is decorated with memorabilia and still photos from the movie, just like all its other branches. Till today, Bubba Gump is the only themed restaurant chain that is based on a motion picture.

Before you begin your meal, first-time visitors should take note of a couple of things. To place an order or to be attended by a waiter, flip over the signage on your table to “Stop Forrest Stop”. When you’re happy and need to be left alone with your food, flip the signage to “Run Forrest Run”.

At the restaurant, what you see is what you get as the portion sizes are the same as shown in the menu. For only RM33.90, patrons will be spoilt for choice as they can choose a variety of starters, main course and dessert.

Start your meal with a choice of soup of the day – mushroom soup, chicken noodle soup, minestrone soup or seafood chowder or munch down a big plate of classic Caesar salad. The salad alone can leave you feeling full.

Bubba Gump offers seven different main courses. If diners prefer poultry, Bubba Gump Malaysia area manager Edgar De Silva recommends the Crazy Cajun Chicken, which is grilled boneless chicken thigh, lightly dusted with Cajun spices, served over seasonal veggies and mashed potatoes.

I liked Mama’s Southern Fried Chicken, boneless breast of chicken, served with fresh golden corn and mashed potatoes with gravy.

For those who prefer beef, Bubba Gump offers a classic beef burger called the Sweet Home BBQ Burger, served with sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and onion rings. Another beef dish specially offered for pasta lovers is the spaghetti with minced beef sauce.

Seafood lovers are not forgotten as the restaurant offers one of the finest shrimp dishes, Mama Blue’s Southern Fried Shrimp. This Southern comfort food comes with hot and crispy fries and cocktail sauce for dipping.

For those who’d prefer fish, order yourself a helping of Bourbon Street Catch of the Day. Charbroiled Cajun spiced tilapia is served with bourbon street sauce and shrimp with mashed potatoes. Alternatively, if you prefer something more familiar, Bubba Gump offers fish fillet served with coleslaw and fries.

Although drinks are not part of the dinner set, you can pair your meal with a lemonade or mango sparkler. The strawberry mango chiller comes in a glass that lights up. Once you’re done with the drink, you can take the glass home to enjoy more sparkly treats at home.

You can end your meal with a choice of home-made desserts. My favourite was Mama’s cinnamon bread pudding. The combination of vanilla sauce and cinnamon was perfect.

If you want a simpler dessert, order chocolate chip cookie sundae with melt in your mouth vanilla ice-cream or homemade biscuits topped with strawberries.

“Last year we had a Ramadan buffet. This year, the Ramadan set focuses on the finest dishes in the main menu,” said De Silva.

Patrons will be surprised to know that Bubba Gump is offering an alternative to the Ramadan menu; another value-for money meal from their New Forrest Favourites menu.

Why the new options?

“We would like people to know that we have meals for anyone and everyone,” he said.

The menu has ten dishes including starters, main course and desserts.

De Silva added that the new menu would also help determine the new items which will be put on the main menu.

So, why not order from the New Forrest Menu and help them make the choice?

With its fabulous food, fantastic location and friendly service Bubba Gump is a good place to buka puasa this year.
