THE Dragon-i Group of Restaurants is bringing back their much loved ‘Treasure Pot’ from now until March 15 for families to enjoy as they usher in the Lunar New Year.

Introduced to the Malaysian market by Dragon-i more than five years ago, the symbolic meal has grown to be a popular dish among the Chinese community as part of their celebration for the festive season.

Authentic treasure pots typically consist of 12 or more special ingredients which are believed to bring good luck, money and fortune.

It has also traditionally been held that eating treasure pots during this time heralds an auspicious start to the new year.

Dragon-i is offering two variants of the traditional dish — the Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot and the Signature Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot. Each is packed with 18 delicacies and weighs 4kg.

The treasure pots are carefully crafted according to an improvised recipe to suit the tastes of Malaysians, and feature a diverse range of flavours thanks to the myriad of ingredients.

The Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot features braised premium Chilean abalone, sea cucumber, Japanese dried scallops, Japanese dried oysters, premium mushrooms, Pantai Remis fresh sea prawns, roast chicken, braised pork belly, golden money bags, pork balls, dried beancurd skin, yam, black moss, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, deep-fried beancurd skin and radish, which are cooked in a braised oyster and abalone sauce.

The Signature Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot(Above Pic) is made more enticing with ingredients such as braised premium Chilean abalone, premium sea cucumber, shark’s fin, Japanese dried scallops, Japanese dried oysters, fish maw, goose web, roast chicken, braised pork belly, pork balls, premium mushrooms, Brazilian matsutake mushrooms, shaggy mane mushrooms, black moss, dried beancurd skin, deep-fried beancurd skin and bamboo piths in Dragon-i’s special broth.

Although 18 delicacies stuffed into one bowl sounds excessive, the various delicacies manage to blend well together to form an unforgettable dining experience, with each ingredient lending a delightful undertone to the rest while retaining its own original aroma.

Special praise should be given to the delightful and chewy abalone, as well as the tasty Japan-imported money bags and pork belly.

Dragon-i Restaurant Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Henry Yip said the best way to savour the dish was to eat it steamboat-style – letting it boil continuously and adding on sauce.

This year, Dragon-i is launching their take-away ‘Blissful Combo’ promotion comprising three dishes that are available for take-away: Braised Cucumber in Abalone Soup, Braised Trotters with Fermented Beancurd and Fried Glutinous Rice with Waxed Meats.

The essence of the Braised Cucumber in Abalone Soup is enhanced by Dragon-i’s special abalone sauce, a thick yet not too overpowering gravy, making the sea cucumbers tender and juicy.

Premium-quality fresh pork, Japanese shiitake mushrooms and vegetable are used in the creation of the Fried Glutinous Rice with Waxed Meats, resulting in the distinct salty taste of Chinese pork sausage that complements the appetising rice dish.

“The dishes for the Blissful Combo are packed in our factory using a blast freeze technology.

“This allows food to be heated when taken out of the freezer while preserving its flavour,” said Yip, adding that instructions on how to heat the food by boiling, steaming or microwaving are provided on the packaging.

Also available for sale are Dragon-i’s range of festive pastries and gift sets, including Pineapple Shortcakes, Gold Leaf Lotus Past Pastry, and Chinese Pork Sausages.

The Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot is priced at RM388++ or RM350++ for Hong Leong Bank credit and debit cardholders as well as Dragon-i cardholders, while the limited edition Signature Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot is priced at RM688++.

The Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot serves six to eight persons, while the Signature Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot serves eight to 10 persons. Both are available for dine-in and take-away.

The treasure pot is served in a high quality steel pot that can be easily reheated without the need for defrosting, simplifying the take-away experience.

Orders must be placed at least three days in advance. For those who wish to celebrate Chinese New Year Eve in their own homes, orders must be collected before 3pm on Feb 18.

Dragon-i’s products for Chinese New Year are available at all Dragon-i and Canton-i restaurants nationwide.
