THERE are some good makan places in Bandar Kinrara near Puchong and one of my recent discovery was a fish head curry restaurant.
This was made known to me by my colleague Jason Butt, and after making some arrangements, we took a drive there with another co-worker of mine James Lam from The Star’s advertising department.
Finding this makan place itself was quite an adventure as we made our away around Bukit Jalil and parts of Puchong.
After a wild ride around the township, we finally located the place.
I was surprised to find a well-established eatery like Restoran Bintang Kari Kepala Ikan that occupied two shoplots in Kinrara.
When we got there, we were ushered to an air-conditioned dining area which was already packed with the lunch crowd.
I was told by Butt that this makan place offers fish head curry in claypot with fish maw and stomach.
Apart from that, customers can also add prawns and squid to their order.
We wasted no time in ordering a large pot of curry and side dishes like the house-styled tofu, stir-fried sweet potato leaves and stewed pork.
Service was prompt as the dishes were delivered fast and when it comes to quality, I must say that this makan place came highly rated.
On taste, I would easily give the fish head curry a seven out of 10 on the ‘Samoscale’.
The fish meat and head was fresh and there’s also plenty of maw and stomach to go around.
As for the side dishes, well, I’m afraid that the quality was just average with the exception being the Chee Keok Chow (pig’s trotters in vinegar).
A pot of fish head curry with the ‘extras’ thrown-in came up to RM60.
There’s plenty of ingredients as the serving was really generous.
Restoran Kari Kepala Ikan Bintang (GPS N 03 03 869, E 101 38 920) is located near Jalan TK1/11a off Jalan Kinrara and is open for lunch and dinner daily.
