TAKE a leisurely drive up to Bayview Beach Resort in Batu Ferringhi, Penang, to savour the Healthy & Heavenly Sunday Buffet Lunch featuring international and local delights, and a dedicated meatless spread.

Available from noon to 3pm at the La Veranda Coffee House, the popular buffet has been drawing in the crowd for years now with its wide selection of over 100 scrumptious items and reasonable pricing.

Adults pay only RM49 nett, children RM28 nett and senior citizens RM39 nett per person to enjoy the hearty and healthy indulgences, especially the special vegetarian section.

Start off with delectable appetisers such as vegetarian hosomaki with condiments, chilled shrimp mayonnaise with diced pineapple, deli’s chicken mortadella and beef krakauer, ayam panggang perchik, spicy fried crab nuggets and vegetarian crumbed salad rolls.

The salad corner offers refreshing choices such as Nyonya pasembur, curried potato salad, fatoush, Japanese cucumber salad, jelatah timun nenas and Penang fruit and vegetable rojak.

Soups consist of vegetarian cream of mushroom or oriental chicken herbal soup while from the deep fryer are yummy Hainanese spring rolls, prawn tempura and salt pepper squid.

The action stalls whip up delicious chicken and beef satay, roti canai with dalca curry, Penang char koay teow and Hokkien prawn mee amongst others.

The main dishes comprise of mutton vindaloo, roast sirloin with black pepper sauce, chicken chop Milanese with creamy tarragon sauce, ayam goreng berempah and mapo tofu with minced chicken meat.

There are also oriental roast duck, fish curry, sweet and sour fish fillet, foo yongcrabmeat omelette, Nyonya perut ikan and yang chow fried rice to satiate discerning taste buds.

Vegetarian selections are aplenty with favourites including fried rice in lotus leaf, braised broccoli spears with black mushrooms, Nyonya char chap chai (mixed vegetables) and stir-fried Hong Kong choy sim with shimeji mushrooms.

Braised petola with rice vermicelli and black fungus, vegetarian Italian pizza pepperoni, sauteed spinach in creamy white sauce, pumpkin stew with Sunsweet prunes, aloo gobi and sambal goreng kacang campuran are also on the menu.

Rounding up are sweet treats like oven-fresh cakes and French pastries, traditional Malay and Nyonya kuih, assorted fruit jellies and puddings, choice of ice cream with toppings and ice kacang.

La Veranda overlooks beautiful landscaped gardens and a free-form swimming pool.

It is also the place to tuck into Penang’s famous local temptations and popular Western interpretations featured in the a la carte menu.
