THIS Mid-Autumn Festival, the new Snow Skin Musang King Durian mooncake will certainly entice durian lovers to the Ming Palace Chinese Restaurant at the Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

“The light and thin snow skin texture is what gives this mooncake its unique taste. Since the snow skin surrounding the filling is so thin, it retains the glorious taste of the durian as compared to the baked mooncake.” said Steve Ng, head caterer for the Ming Palace and banquets.

Ming Palace offers 10 types of mooncakes and they make great gifts for family and friends to celebrate this auspicious season.

Adding on two new varieties to their already existing delicious list of colourful mooncake flavours are the above mentioned Snow Skin Musang Durian and Snow Skin Ying Yang Sesame.

“The sesame seeds are imported and are of the highest class of seeds,” said Ng.

The hotel prides itself on their snow skin mooncakes. Competing among other hotels and well-known brands, the Corus emerged as the gold medal winner in The Fabulous Snow Skin mooncake category two years in a row in 2010 and 2011.

According to dim sum Chef Roland Seow Heng Chai, “The snow skin is made from glutinous rice, giving you the soft, smooth texture you feel when biting into the cakes. These cakes are not baked, which makes the ingredients come to live with each bite. And that’s the difference between snow skin mooncakes and baked mooncakes.
