THERE is a tai-chou stall in USJ10 Taipan that was given a mention by my buddy Jack Soong.

Soong said it served one of the best Hokkien-char around.

I have written about the coffee shop’s Tai Poh Meen earlier and found that they serve stir-fried dishes at night.

Choices, choices: Nanking coffee shop’s tai chou stall displays pictures of some of the dishes it serves on a signboard above the stall.

The place in question is Nanking coffee shop in Jalan USJ10/1D.

To verify Soong’s claim, I referred to my colleague Mr Rama who confirmed that there was a Hokkien-char stall at this makan place.

So, I decided to give it a try and brought my wife along.

The stall is located at the right beside a China noodles stall at the rear of the coffee shop.

It is not hard to spot as photographs of some of the dishes served are placed right above them.

With Sin Kong coffee shop’s (the coffee shop located directly behind Nanking) Hokkien-char as a benchmark, I would say that after trying the noodles twice, this makan place would have plenty to improve.

However, the Sin Kong fellah who did all the frying is not around anymore, plunging that outlet’s ratings even further.

For two persons, a plate of Hokkien-char at Nanking coffee shop costs RM12 per serving. Taste-wise, I would say that it lacked that ‘ooomph!’ that I was looking for.

But the saving grace was this — there was plenty of chee yau char (pork crackling).

The downside is the absense of shrimp, squid and pork liver that makes the experience complete.

Price-wise, I would say that by Subang Jaya standards, Nanking charges a decent fee for the generous servings.

Other than Hokkien-char, the stall also dishes out Sing Chau Mai (Singapore beehoon), Kong Fu Yin Yong (Cantonese koay teow and beehoon), Lor Meen and other noteable Hokkien and Cantonese-styled noodles.

Nanking coffee shop opens from morning until late at night and the Hokkien-char stall there opens only for dinner.

It is not hard to locate this coffee shop as it is located opposite the RHB bank in USJ10.

For directions on how to get there, do a ‘Google Map’ search by typing in the coffee shop’s name.

And to you gadget geeks out there, the lat-long coordinates for this coffee shop are: N03 02 877, E 101 35 072.
