AS THE festive season draws closer, many look forward to going back to their hometowns to savour traditional home cooked dishes for “buka puasa” prepared by their mothers and grandmothers during the holy month.

Those caught in the hustle and bustle of the city need not fret as it is also the time of year when restaurants serve the best of the best dishes.

Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya has four chefs from Malacca, Kelantan and Negri Sembilan to whip up authentic traditional dishes for all guests.

Guests can look forward to dishes like ayam penyet, marinated with various spices and herbs, ikan sembilang berlada and ayam goreng jintan served with a variety of Malay salad and complemented by an array of spicy sambal.

Ikan bakar is a must have in kampung cuisine, served with assam jawa, slivers of onion and cili padi, to be eaten with rice and spicy sambal.

Among others, there will also be ayam perchik Kelantan, kerabu jantung pisang, ikan patin masak tempoyak, ikan bawal masak pedas, kailan goreng ikan masin and burung puyoh goreng cili padi.

Guests will also be spoilt for choice with the variety of desserts ranging from bubur durian, bubur pulut hitam, pulut tapai and a variety of Malay kuih.

The variety does not end with Malay cuisine but also includes Chinese and Western food.

The “kampung” food promotion runs from Aug 1 until Aug 29 for dinner from 6.30pm until 10pm at Swez Brasserie. Prices start from RM72++ for adults and RM36++ for children during 1-7 Aug and 26-29 Aug. From 8-25 Aug, the price is set at RM82++ for adults and RM41++ for children.
