Recipe Ingredient

  • 2 cups long grain rice
  • 1 onion, cut into half and sliced thinly
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic
  • 2cm ginger, sliced thinly
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 5cm cinnamon stick
  • 3 cloves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2–3 screwpine leaves, knotted
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Wash the rice and drain well. Melt butter in a wok and fry onion, garlic, ginger, cinnamon stick and cloves until fragrant.
  2. Add rice and turmeric powder and fry until well combined. Transfer rice to an electric rice cooker. Add screwpine leaves, salt and water. Cook until rice is fluffy. Stand for 10 minutes before dishing out to serve.
