Recipe Ingredient

  • 170g butter
  • 220g castor sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 500g water
  • 450g superfine flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence


  1. Line and grease a 23cm cake pan and preheat oven at 180°C.
  2. Place butter, sugar, salt and water in a deep saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil until sugar is dissolved. Remove and leave to cool completely.
  3. Add vanilla essence to mix, then sift in flour and baking powder.
  4. Stir to mix into a batter. Transfer batter into prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until cake is done.
