A sauce with a distinctly local (Malaysian) flavour that goes well with Hokkien mee and other noodle dishes like laksa.
Heat wok with oil. Add pounded shallots, garlic and chilli paste. Fry until oil rises to the top.
Add salt, sugar and lemon juice. Mix well and fry for two to three more minutes. Dish up and use this chilli sauce for your hokkien mee.
