Recipe Ingredient

  • 150g fragrant long grain rice, washed and drained
  • 50g dhall, soaked for several hours
  • 450ml water
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • (A):
  • 2cm cinnamon stick
  • 3 cardamoms, lightly crushedv
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2cm piece ginger, lightly bruised
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 onion, finely sliced
  • Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp chicken stock granules

Instructions

  1. Heat margarine and oil in a wok and fry ingredients (A) till fragrant. Add onions and sweat till they turn soft. Add ginger and turmeric powder and stir fry.
  2. Mix in rice and dhall and fry further. Add seasoning and water, mix thoroughly. Transfer ingredients to an electric rice cooker and cook until done.
  3. Serve with garnishing.
