Recipe Ingredient

  • 5 pieces tempe or fermented soya bean cakes
  • Enough oil for deep-frying
  • Seasoning:
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp meat curry powder
  • 1 tsp chicken stock granules
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp rice flour
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • Spicy dipping sauce:
  • 2 tbsp Thai chilli sauce
  • 1 tbsp chopped bird chilli (cilipadi)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt or to taste
  • 1 to 2 tbsp fish sauce (nampla)

Instructions

  1. Cut tempe pieces into 3cm squares. Combine the seasoning ingredients in a mixing bowl and add tempe pieces; toss well. Deep-fry in hot oil till golden and crispy. Serve with dipping sauce.
  2. To make sauce, combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Mix well.
