Recipe Ingredient

  • 200g barley pearls
  • 250g candied melon
  • 3 litres water
  • Sugar to taste


  1. Wash barley pearls in several changes of water. Put barley pearls in water and bring to a boil. Once it starts to boil remove the bubbles that surface. Keep boiling over medium low heat until the water is clear. Continue to boil for another 10-15 minutes. Add candied melon and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Allow the barley drink to stand for 15-20 minutes until it has cooled down slightly. Do not strain the drink.
  3. If you prefer it a little sweeter, add sugar to taste. Even without sugar, the candied melon would have sweetened the drink. Serve warm.
