Recipe Ingredient

  • 700gm diced beef – steak or topside
  • 200gm shallots peeled
  • 200gm button mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp mixed herbs
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 50gm flour
  • 0.5lit beef stock, or water, or Guinness
  • 4 or 5 shakes of Worchester Sauce
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Short Crust Pastry to top the pie

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat the oil. Add the cubed beef together with the mixed herbs and bay leaves.
  2. Cook to seal the meat.
  3. Add the flour to brown stirring so as not to allow it to burn.
  4. Add the stock or water or Guinness and allow braising.
  5. Braise till tender before adding the mushrooms.
  6. Correct the seasoning and add a little Worchester Sauce.
  7. Pour the contents into a pie dish.
  8. Roll out the Short Crust Pastry to cover the top of the pie dish.
  9. Tuck and using your fingers, seal the pastry down to the rim of the pie dish.
  10. Make a few slits on the pastry to allow the steam to rise.
  11. Bake in a moderate oven for about 30mins or till the pastry is brown.
  12. Serve hot.
