DIE-hard ramen lovers can now rejoice as international ramen chain Ippudo (literally “One Wind Hall”) has opened its doors at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Since starting off with a humble 10-seat stall in Fukuoka city, Ippudo has expanded to 65 restaurants throughout Japan and 16 international outlets.

One of the largest Ramen restaurant chains in the world, the chain claims to serve over 30,000 bowls of noodles worldwide each day.

Even before its official opening, the local foodie scene had been buzzing about the chain’s arrival and many fans had turned up to sample Ippudo’s fare when it began its soft launch on Feb 14.

The official Feb 20 launch of Ippudo Malaysia’s first restaurant saw the chain’s founder Shigemi Kawahara, with local partner Calibre Wealth Management Sdn Bhd’s Datuk Rosie Tan and the Japanese embassy deputy chief of mission Hiroshi Matsuura breaking a traditional barrel of sake to celebrate the outlet’s opening.

Fans will be glad to know that Ippudo Malaysia will be serving the signature three ramen dishes of Shiromaru Motoaji, Akamaru Shinaji and Karaka-Men.

The former two ramen dishes consist of “white”, “red” miso tonkotsu pork bone broths, with meltingly soft pork belly and loin slices. Beansprouts and spring onions further augment the miso taste.

Additionally, there are a load of side dishes which round off the menu, from crispy, seaweed sprinkled fried sweetcorn, to delectable pork-belly buns, fried prawns in spicy mayo dip and chewy harumaki (spring rolls).

“My whole family loves ramen, hence when we decided to collaborate to bring in a ramen chain to Malaysia, we thought why not Ippudo which serves very good noodles and enjoys a huge following worldwide?” said Tan.

She added that Ippudo Malaysia were looking to invent non-pork ramen dishes in the future and in fact expand the number of Ippudo outlets in Malaysia in the next three years as part of their mid-term plans.

Located on Level 4 of Pavilion KL in the Connection Precinct, Ippudo Pavilion KL is open from 11am-11pm every day, and seats 53 patrons.

To unwind, the outlet also boasts a bar section seating 20, for plum wines, to Yamazaki whiskey and sake for the traditionally-minded.
