FOR a fan of BBQ ribs, I don’t eat at Morganfield’s quite as often as I ought to. Now that it has an eighth outlet on the way (Sunway Pyramid), my infrequent visits should be history.

The establishment prides itself on being the “home of sticky bones” and while the BBQ pork ribs truly are its specialty, there’s a lot of other stuff to choose from.

After many almost-wents, I finally made it to the outlet in Publika recently.

So much (sinful) goodness … the Morganfield’s Ribs Sampler for those who can’t decide which flavour of sticky bones to get.

A few friends and I couldn’t decide what to choose, so we ordered one of its ginormous sampler platters. We opted for the Ribs Sampler (RM199.90) – three half slabs of spare ribs (choose from Spicy Asian BBQ, Smoked Peppercorn, Hickory BBQ or Garlicky BBQ), three big plump sausages, corn on the cob, salad, fries and corn bread (baked in little square paper cups, resembling the muffins from a certain roast chicken joint named for a country singer).

A friend seated at the end of the table asked someone sitting closer to the platter to pass her some ribs. This other friend tried, and the meat promptly fell off the bone as she tried to lift it off the plate. That’s how “fall-off-the-bone-tender” the ribs are.

Did we forget to mention that the Ribs Sampler also includes a sausage platter? Meat heaven, here we come!

I also found that the various sauces are less abundant than when I first ate at Morganfield’s in Pavilion KL around three years ago. Which is a good thing! That first time, the sauces just overwhelmed everything.

I’m ashamed to admit that five of us really struggled to finish the platter. But we eventually got through all the meat, and left the platter looking like Ripley from ALIENS was in our group (we didn’t like the corn bread neither).

Certainly a recommended destination for nicely-done oinky ribs. If you fancy some alcohol in your barbecue, there are also Iberico (Spanish black pig) baby back ribs with Jack Daniels or Jim Beam sauce.

And the ongoing Awesome Threesome beer promo (among others, RM84.90 for three pints of easy-on-the-palate Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc) doesn’t hurt either.

Beer that’s easy on the palate always goes down well with yummy BBQ.

As we left, I wondered: How could I have let eight freaking months pass since my last visit? Sure won’t wait eight more.

Note: Other outlets include Pavilion KL, eCurve Petaling Jaya, Empire Shopping Gallery Subang, IOI City Mall Putrajaya, Gurney Paragon and Queensbay Mall Penang.
