The secret to good steamboat is in the broth.

STEAMBOAT, otherwise known as hot pot, is a favourite during family reunions.

At the award-winning Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel, this popular dish has been taken to a whole new level by its innovative chefs.

The “All Steamed Up – Oriental Steamboat” promotion is available for dinner from now till Dec 31.

Loo said each broth was researched extensively for its taste and health benefits.

Heading the team is Chinese Restaurant Chef Vincent Loo who has introduced five must-try gourmet broths as well as meat and seafood platters as the perfect accompaniment.

“The essence of any good steamboat comes from the type of broth selected. This time around, customers can choose from our signature broths which are ‘Lui Yee Hung’ Chinese Wine with Cordyceps Herbal Soup, Jade Porridge and Hot Slipper Lobster Soup.

“We also have the ‘Thai’ Tom Yam Soup if you prefer a tangy and spicy twist. Besides that, we also serve Chicken Ginseng Soup for diners who prefer something traditional and subtle,” Loo said during a recent review at the restaurant.

He added that each broth was researched extensively for its taste and health benefits.

“For example, the Jade Porridge (top pic) is a vegetarian broth with spinach, which is claimed to strengthen the bones, nourish the eyes and contains anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory antioxidants.

“The Hot Slipper Lobster Soup is a fusion of slipper lobster based broth and ‘ma la’ sauce, an ideal soup for those who are looking for something flavourful and very spicy,” he explained.

The Jade Porridge is certainly a must-have as its unusual combination of rice and spinach gave a subtle sweetness to the ingredients added. Seafood goes particularly well as it does not overpower the broth or vice versa.

Another favourite is the Hot Slipper Lobster Soup which is reminiscent of Prawn Noodle Soup.

This particular broth is the perfect match for any type of poultry. In the poultry set (which include sausages, duck and chicken) the smoked duck meat is a definite must-dip for this soup. When cooked in the soup, the duck meat loses its gamey taste, while enhancing the smoky flavours.

The Seafood Set at Celestial Court includes Sea abalone slices, white Prawn, flower Crab, mussels, fish slices, jelly fish, crab sticks, fresh oysters, scallops, assorted vegetables, chicken farm egg and rice vermicelli.
