During a tea-pairing event with the media, the TWG Tea Salon and Boutique ION Orchard manager Charif Taieb lent his expertise on pairing the perfect tea with pastries.
Taieb said drinking tea after a long day was relaxing and there were many tea flavours to choose from.
He said the various tastes of teas are made from the same plant but the oxidation level was what made them different.
Green tea, which has 0% oxidation, is especially known to be healthy, whereas black tea is 100% oxidised, he said.
He added that oolong tea was good to be taken during a meal as it helped with digestion.
Guests were served Geisha Blossom Tea, an elegant and highly refined blend of green tea and refreshing ripe sourthern fruits.
The tea was paired with sandwiches prawn, walnut and celery infused with Tibetan Secret Tea and Japanese Cucumber Yogurt Salad and Cheddar Cheese sprinkled with Gyokuro Samurai Tea.
The second tea served was Royal Moroccan Tea, that boasts one of the finest green teas and an exceptional blend of wild mints that was definitely refreshing.
The pastries that accompanied the tea were mushroom and tarragon pastries infused with Singapore Breakfast Tea, Mini Beef Cheek Pie with Parsnip Mash infused with New York Breakfast Tea and Smoked Salmon and Sundried Tomato Quiche infused with Russian Earl Grey Tea.
Guests also tasted Maharaja Darjeeling Tea, a majestic blend of first and second flush harvests from the highest Darjeeling plateaus and is accented with spices and a delicious tinge of sweetness.
As a finale, there were three teas served to the guests to accompany the fresh raspberry tartlet infused with Phuguri Darjeeling Tea as dessert.
White House Tea is a white tea with fruits and fragrant roses and this tea leaves an enduring aftertaste of ripe berries.
Next is the TWG Tea Macarons, a grand wedding tea with passionfruit and coconut, lemon bush, 1837 black tea and blackcurrant.
