After searching online for a Hainanese chicken rice recipe and being satisfied with her rendition of the dish, Lim Mooi June started a stall selling chicken rice (top pic) and other dishes at the Fadason Boss Cafe in Fadason Business Centre, Kepong.

Sounds easy? If you think you can repeat her feat, think again.

Lim or better known as Aunty June is merely being humble. Turns out, this stylish cook has more than 30 years experience in the catering business.

“Some of my old customers found out that I had relocated here and came to give their support,” she said.

When my friend, Sidney, recommended this stall, I was not too keen as I am not a big fan of braised or poached chicken because the ones I tasted before were oily and the meat a bit too chewy.

To my pleasant surprise, I actually enjoyed the food prepared by Aunty June.

“The chicken is from Bukit Mertajam. I add kunyit when braising the chicken to give it colour and flavour,” she said.

Chicken wings are priced at RM6.80 apiece and drumsticks at RM7.80.

Also sold here is the Dong Po pork (braised pork belly) with braised kampung egg.

This dish is great with rice and I savoured it by drenching my rice with the gravy.

For those who like pig’s intestines, this is also available here priced at RM3 for a small portion and RM5 for a large serving.

Aunty June’s stall operates from 9am to 3pm, daily, and is closed on the first and 15th day of the month of the lunar calendar.

Fadason Business Centre is located in Jalan 1/17, Taman Fadason, off Jalan Kepong, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.
