Recipe Ingredient

  • 150g plain flour
  • 55g ground almonds
  • 50g sultanas
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 30g soft brown sugar
  • 75g butter
  • Combined
  • 2g instant coffee
  • 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 100ml milk


  1. Preheat oven to 220°C. Sift flour and baking powder into a bowl and stir in salt. Rub in butter lightly until the mixture is crumbly.
  2. Add in ground almonds, sugar and sultanas to mix. Gradually pour in coffee, cocoa and milk mixture with a wooden spoon to mix until a soft dough is formed.
  3. Lightly flour tabletop and place the dough on it. Knead into a ball then roll out to a thickness of 2cm.
  4. Cut into 4cm squares. Arrange the cut-out dough on lightly greased baking trays and bake for 15-18 minutes or until well risen and golden.
  5. Serve scones warm or immediately after baking.
