Recipe Ingredient

  • 500g roasted pork trotters, chopped into chunky pieces
  • 400g salted vegetable (kiam chye), cut into bite-sized pieces and soaked for 1/2 an hour
  • 2 sour plums
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 2 tomatoes, kept whole
  • 6 dried chillies, washed and kept whole
  • 4 slices ginger
  • 1 tsp peppercorns, cracked
  • 2-3 small limes (limau kasturi), kept whole
  • 2 litres water
  • Seasoning:
  • Sugar and salt to taste


  1. Bring water to a boil and add in pork trotters, ginger and peppercorns. Simmer covered for 30 minutes. Add salted vegetable, tomatoes, onions, dried chillies, small limes and sour plums. Bring to a boil again and cook uncovered for 20 minutes. Add seasoning to taste then dish out. Serve soup hot.
