THIS Chinese New Year, Golden Phoenix at Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur will be offering yee sang with a unique twist in the form of its signature Golden Prosperity Yee Sang.

Diners can toss to a prosperous year ahead with the Golden Prosperity Yee Sang that is topped with Crispy Soft Shell Crab and Caviar.

It is served with 18 selected sliced and grated fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts, and tossed with a special honey-orange sauce.

In addition, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant offers the traditional choices of Australian Abalone Yee Sang, Norwegian Salmon Yee Sang and Jelly Fish Yee Sang, as well as a vegetarian option with the Korean Pear Yee Sang.

Golden Phoenix’s yee sang, which are also available for takeaway, comes in three sizes — small, medium and large.

Chinese master chef Ng Chee Wah and his team have prepared three menus featuring auspicious dishes symbolising prosperity, health and good luck to usher in the Year of the Dragon in gastronomic style.

The Celestial Dragon menu begins with the Norwegian Salmon with Caviar Yee Sang, and Double Boiled Shark’s Fin Soup with Dried Scallop and Crab Meat.

Next are the Deep Fried Spring Chicken with Lemon Sauce, Braised Dried Oyster, Black Moss with Mushrooms and Broccoli, Steamed Sea Grouper with King Soy Sauce, Stir Fried Tiger Prawn with Salted Eggs, and Steamed Claypot Rice with Waxed Meat and Chinese Sausages.

For desserts, diners will be served Chilled Black Glutinous Rice with Ice Cream and Golden Phoenix Delights, namely Loh Mai Chi and Deep Fried Nian Gou with Yam.

The Earth Dragon menu features Norwegian Salmon with Korean Pear Yee Sang, and Double Boiled Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat.

This is followed by Roasted Chicken with Onions, Braised Sea Asparagus, Black Moss with Lotus Root and Broccoli, Steamed Pomfret with Soy Sauce, Stir Fried Tiger Prawns in Vietnamese Style, and Fried Rice with Salted Eggs and Diced Prawns.

The menu ends with Glutinous Dumpling with Ginger Tea and Pan Fried Nian Gou with Cheese for desserts.

The Glutinous Dumpling is a tong yuen dessert with black sesame filling, while the thin film of cheese in the Nian Gou serves as a savoury balance to the sweet item.

Diners who opt for the Water Dragon menu will start their meal with Caviar, Fuji Apple, Korean Pear, Pine Nuts and Salmon Yee Sang, and Braised Superior Shark’s Fin with Brown Sauce.

Following these dishes are the Spring Chicken with Apple Sauce, Golden Abalone, Dried Oyster, Black Moss with Broccoli, Stir Fried Lobster with Ginger and Spring Onions, Steamed Dragon Tiger Grouper with King Soy Sauce, and Claypot Rice with Chinese Sausages and Waxed Meat.

Desserts come in the form of the Double Boiled Hasma and White Fungus with Ginseng, and Deep Fried Nian Gou with Banana and Cheese.

The Celestial Dragon, Earth Dragon and Water Dragon set menus are priced at RM1,338++, RM1,538++ and RM3,838++ per table of 10 persons.

Prices for Golden Phoenix’s yee sang start from RM58++ onwards for a small portion.

Diners who book their table early will receive either a Prosperity Peach tree or Chinese Tea set.

Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur’s Chinese New Year festive offer is available from Jan 9 till Feb 6 for lunch and dinner.

Lunch is served from noon to 2.30pm, while dinner is served from 6.30pm till 10.30pm.
