A new hotel in town, Capri by Fraser, is offering its first ever Ramadan buffet.

Chef de partie Harmizie Mohamed has taken inspiration from the cuisine of each state for the menu.

The media had the opportunity to taste some of the dishes which are being served on rotation for buka puasa.

 

To begin the meal, there was Malay and English salads as well as keropok lekor, pappadom and prawn crackers.

One of the main dishes to look out for, said Harmizie, is Sambal Hitam, a popular dish from Pahang that he learnt from an old woman.

“It is very hard to find here as ingredients like petai and jering are used. It also needs to be cooked really slowly. The result is a spicy, salty dish that is perfect with rice,” he said.

One of his other recommendations was Ayam Golek, a recipe from a northern royal family.

Another dish that really teased our taste buds was Terung Lemak Tulang Ikan Masin.

The smell of the dish was enough to get the tummy rumbling. The gravy was thick and a little salty but tasted great.

The Sambal Puteri Raja was another unique dish. The sambal was made of peanut, anchovies, bird’s eye chilli as well as Teochew sauce.

“The sambal is salty and creamy while the peanuts give it a nice red colour. It is a great appetiser,” said Harmizie.

Fish lovers should look out for the Grilled Red Snapper which is marinated with a tantalising mix of herbs before being grilled whole.

Served with it are two chilli dips, the ever popular sambal belacan with a slight Eurasian twist, as well as the air asam.

There are also a number of live action stalls serving satay with a slightly spicy peanut sauce as well as popiah.

Desserts are plentiful with choices like Malay kuih and ais kacang as well as fresh durian for an additional RM15++.

A chef will be on hand to break open the thorny fruits for guests to enjoy at the outdoor terrace.

Capricilious will be offering a special price of RM58.50++ from July 21 until 24 for the buka puasa buffet. They are also having an offer whereby for nine paying guests, the tenth dines free until July 19.

The normal buffet is priced at RM78++ per person and half price for children aged six to 12.
