THERE is now one more option on how to celebrate the end of the work week – by indulging in a huge array of seafood at Zest at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa.

Available every Friday night from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, the Fisherman Fridays buffet sets out to entice seafood lovers.

Almost every item presented on the counters featured seafood as one of the ingredients.

Take the starters for instance, Fish Ball Marinated Salad, Squid Asparagus and Alfalfa Sprouts Squid Marinated Salad, Scallop Salad and Salmon Graflax were interesting additions to the usual smoked salmon and fresh oysters.

Moving on, there were Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western-style main dishes.

Culinary director Chef Ken Yeong said there were six choices available at each section.

Crusted Snappers Steak with Capsicum Sauce and Risotto Alla Milanese were examples of the Western dishes while Bebola Ketam Masam Manis, Kari Kepala Ikan and Udang Goreng Kunyit were from the Malay section.

From the selection of Chinese dishes, we sampled Crab with Salted Egg, Kong Po Squid and Bamboo Clams with Chili Sauce.

We also enjoyed the Indian favourites such as Tandoori Squid, Prawns and Broccoli.

But the main highlight of the buffet was definitely the grilled seafood counter, which offered seabass, red snapper, mackerel, kembung, tiger prawns, clams, flower crabs, squids, mussels and more.

There were also huge scallops with slabs of soft orange roes.

Yeong said the scallops were imported from China.

Some of the seafood was sourced from Sabah while others from the peninsula.

“The squids from Sabah are so fresh, making them very easy to handle. Their texture is firmer compared with those available here,” he said.

Diners could enjoy the grilled items as they were, squeeze a wedge of lemon on them, or dip them into the myriad sauces available.

Lemon butter sauce, capers cream sauce, black pepper, garlic mushroom, Cajun cream sauce, hoisin sauce, sweet and sour sauce were just a few examples from the long list.

While you are quite right to think that the chefs could not possibly be adding seafood to the desserts, the creative team has crafted lovely miniature sea creatures like clams and squids to decorate the pastries.

There was even a cake in the form of a large, glittery fish.

Fisherman Fridays buffet is priced at RM88++ per adult and RM53++ per child.
