DESPITE taking up his posting at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa in Petaling Jaya only two months ago, master chef Lee Yew Ken had no trouble whipping up an extensive menu for West Lake Garden’s Chinese New Year promotion.
“I spent a two-year stint in Japan, where it was quite common for me to prepare Chinese dishes on the spot, based on customers’ requests such as preferred ingredients or budget,” said the 39-year-old who also drew on his decade-old experience as a chef specialising in Cantonese cuisine.
In accordance with tradition, diners will kick-start their meal by tossing Lee’s Prosperous Yee Sang for a better year ahead.
The Prosperous Yee Sang, which is also available for takeaway in half and full portion, come in varieties such as Prosperity Abalone and Salmon Yee Sang, King Pu with Hokkaido Scallop Yee Sang, and Pollen with Shellfish and Prawn Yee Sang, as well as vegetarian options such as Prosperity Snow Pear with Vegetarian Prawn Yee Sang and Prosperity Mixed Salad with Fresh Fruit Yee Sang.
To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, West Lake Garden is offering a choice of four lavish menus (for a table of 10) to choose from.
The opulent Diamond Dragon menu, priced at RM2,012++, begins with the King Pu Boston Lobster Yee Sang, followed by the Monk Jumped Over the Wall with Truffle Mushroom Soup.
The next few dishes are the Braised Eight Headed Abalone with Black Moss, Baked Drunken Village Chicken, Ying Yang Estuary Garoupa in Claypot, and Deep Fried King Tiger Prawn with Pumpkin Sauce.
The meal ends with the Braised Yee Fu Noodle with Lobster Claw, as well as the Chinese New Year Sweet Fancy Duet, and Sweetened Coconut with Almond Cream and Hasma for desserts.
The Chinese New Year Sweet Fancy Duet features Nian Gao coated with dessicated coconut and Mini Snowskin Pumpkins with red bean filling.
Diners who opt for the Golden Dragon menu will start their meal with the King Pu with Hokkaido Scallop Yee Sang and Double Boiled Superior Shark’s Fin Soup with Japanese Scallop and Fish Maw.
