ONE of my latest discoveries is Restoran Mimpi Muor in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

This makan place specialises in asam pedas and, if you are a fan of this famous Johorean dish, then you are in for a treat.

During a visit to Bandar Utama, I was led to the restaurant by my buddy Nasurudin Aidid.

What I like about this restaurant is the interior decor.

You will find a lot of photographs on the walls depicting the town of Muar and its surroundings.

And speaking of asam pedas, there was a good selection of fish such as the ikan merah, jenahak, parang, kembung and pari.

However, I found the price to be a bit steep for Klang Valley standards.

But the owner does clearly state that the dishes are priced according to market prices.

A plate of ikan jenahak (white snapper) steak costs RM12. The cheaper alternative is the ikan pari (stingray) that sells for RM6 a piece.

On taste, I would rate the asam pedas at 7 out of 10 on the Samo-scale.

The authentic flavour can be compared to the dishes served in Muar, which is one of the largest towns in northwestern Johor.

Nasurudin said the owner’s father would conduct quality control on the asam pedas gravy to ensure that its properly done.

“Eh Sam, this shop is very strict-la, proper quality control is carried out so that the taste is as good as those dishes in Muar,” he said.

Apart from asam pedas, you can also savour the shop’s nasi campur.

So, with the fish added, a routine lunch meal would come up to RM13 including rice and a few nasi campur dishes.

Mimpi Muor opens daily and begins business from 5pm onwards during the fasting month.

It is located off Jalan PJU7/16 and the GPS coordinates are: N 03 09 566, E 101 36 156.
