THE quest for good lou yuk (braised pork in soy sauce) led me to a famous coffee shop in Section 17, Petaling Jaya recently.

The place in question is Hong Seng coffee shop (GPS 03 07.712, E 101 38.123), off Jalan 17/38.

There is a stall selling lou yuk in this makan place that is very popular among the lunch crowd.

It opens daily for breakfast and lunch and is also one of my favourite stalls.

You can find braised duck, pork belly, chicken egg, tofu and pig’s entrails sold here.

One can choose to have lou yuk with porridge or white rice.

A plate of lou yuk would cost about RM7 on average.

If you choose to add more meat, it can easily cost more than RM10 per dish.

In my case, I ordered some pork belly, chee thay phei (pig’s face), chee cheong(pig’s entrails), a piece of chicken egg and tofu. My bill came up to RM9.50.

Price-wise, it is on the high side, but that did not really matter because the lou yuktasted good.

The choice morsels were soft and springy and that is what I really like about chewing the chee thay phei (pig’s face).

The Lou Yuk goes down well with a plate of hot rice.

The gravy was just right, not too salty and went well with rice.

On the Samo-scale, I would give the stall 6.8 out of 10.

So, if you are in the neighbourhood, do give this stall a try.
