THE Kurma Cheesecake served at Marriott Putrajaya is a dessert not to be missed by diners breaking fast at the hotel, as this treat was specially created for Ramadan.

“The Kurma Cheesecake is a Middle East meets West concept.

“Dates are traditionally consumed during Ramadan as something sweet to break fast with before having the main meal, while cheesecakes are popular among local diners,” said pastry chef Mohd Zahari Abd Ghani.

Zahari said it took him about three weeks to conceptualise the idea and in getting the recipe right.

“The dates base complements the richness of the cheesecake on a vanilla sponge, and creates a smooth blend of unique tanginess,” he said.

Marriott Putrajaya is hosting its annual Ramadan buffet at the Grand Ballroom this year.

It features a spread of traditional and specialty dishes, as well as stations offering live cooking and cuisines of selected regions.

The lavish Ramadan menus, which are rotated daily, are a joint effort by chefs Zulkafli Mohammad and Aris Fadilah Baharum.

“It took us almost four months to come up with the entire Ramadan promotion.

“We removed some dishes from previous menus to add new dishes, but the popular ones have been retained.

“The popular favourites are those from the Tujuh Kawah, Dusun (Orchard), BBQ and Grilled Seafood sections,” said Aris

The Tujuh Kawah highlights piping hot gravy-based dishes from various Malaysian states, such as Fish Head Curry, Ayam Kerutup, Daging Gulai Kawah, Ikan Assam Pedas, Perut Lembu Masak Cili Padi, Kambing Kuzi and Dalca Tulang Rawan.

The BBQ station has Whole Roast Lamb and Roast Leg of Beef, while the grilled seafood section offers grilled squid, prawns, crab and sting ray.

Diners can then go on a culinary adventure by sampling dishes at the Mexican station offering tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas and quesadillas. The Japanese station features maki sushi and California rolls.

Indian and Tandoor station offers vadai, samosa, idli, murtabak, lamb kebab, fish tandoori and chicken tandoori. The Italian station has pasta cooked a la minute, and the Chinese section has steamed and deep-fried dim sum.

Zulkafli recommends the nasi ulam, and says the bubur lambuk features different main ingredients daily, like beef, chicken or prawns.

Fans of durian and other local fruits should stop by the Dusun corner that offers a wide variety
of fruits such as durians (of the D24, D26 and musang king variety), guava, langsat, dokong and mangosteen.

The Ramadan buffet at Marriott Putrajaya is priced at RM110++ per adult and RM66++ per child. The promotion is available until Aug 4.
