TAI Zi Heen Chinese restaurant is featuring 50 Cantonese-inspired dishes in its “All You Can Eat Dinner” promotion.

The menu features appetisers, soups, barbecue dishes, meat, vegetables, seafood, noodles and rice dishes as well as desserts.

The hotel’s Chinese head chef Michael Wong said dim sum was also included in the menu this year.

Among the notable dishes was Crystal Yam Dumpling with Chicken and Mushroom filling (har kaw).

“I used clippers to mould the har kaw to resemble a flower.

“We mixed the diced chicken, yam and mushroom as well as seasoning together before refrigerating it to maintain freshness,” Wong explained at a recent media preview which also featured entertainment from stand-up comedian Andrew Netto.

The translucent skin of the dumpling was soft and the filling, was mouthwatering. The mushroom also added a hint of sweetness to the dish.

Next was the Sze Chuan Style Hot and Sour Soup with Seafood, Chicken and Bean Curd as well as Chicken Consomme with Sun Dried Scallop and Cordyceps.

Sze Chuan dishes are known for their spiciness but Wong’s is not overwhelming while the Chicken Consomme with Sun Dried Scallop and Cordyceps was savoury and tasty.

The Shredded Chicken with Jelly Fish and Spicy Peanut Sauce did not disappoint either with the sourness and spiciness nicely balanced.

The soup base for the Braised Shanghai Noodles with Minced Chicken, Pickled Vegetables and Hot Bean Paste is made with vinegar, chilli oil, peanut butter and sesame paste.

Served with a generous sprinkle of diced spring onions and sesame seeds, the dish had a nice aroma and the soup was very flavoursome.

We also tried the Spinach Bean Curd with Sauteed Asparagus and Nameko Mushrooms. The bean curd was soft and had a strong egg-taste.

The meal ended with Mango Pudding with Passion Fruit Sauce for dessert.

Other dishes featured in the promotion are Crystal Dumplings with Dried Sole (har kaw), Poached Tiger Prawns with Soya Sauce, Deep Fried Sea Grouper Fillet with Thai Chilli Plum Sauce, Wok-fried Fresh Sea Scallops with Seasonal Vegetables, Wok-fried Kung Po Chicken with Dried Chillies and Cashew Nuts, Crispy Roasted Duck with Plum Sauce and Shrimp Fried Rice with Tobiko and Bonito flakes.

The “All You Can Eat Dinner” promotion is priced at RM68++ per person and is available until further notice.
