Recipe Ingredient

  • 220g golden syrup
  • 90g groundnut oil
  • 1½ tsp alkaline water
  • 1/8 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 300g plain flour, sifted


  1. Combine golden syrup, oil, alkaline water and bicarbonate of soda in a mixing bowl. Stir well to mix then cover with cling film wrap and leave aside for at least 5-6 hours.
  2. Put sifted flour into a clean mixing bowl. Pour in the combined rested syrup mixture. Mix well but do not over-knead the dough. Leave aside for an hour before using. Divide dough into small portions of 35g each.
