Recipe Ingredient

  • 2cm square piece vegetarian belacan
  • 100g tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 250ml water
  • (A):
  • 300g red chillies (seeded)
  • 80g dried chillies (seeded and soaked)
  • Seasoning:
  • 1tbsp vinegar
  • 1tbsp castor sugar
  • 1tbsp vegetarian concentrated mushroom powder
  • 50g castor sugar
  • 1/2tsp salt or to taste


  1. Combine ingredients (A) in a food processor. Add a little water and process to the consistency required.
  2. Heat a little oil and fry vegetarian belacan until fragrant.
  3. Add blended chillies, tomatoes, water and seasoning.
  4. Fry over medium low heat until mixture is fairly dry. Dish out.
