SPICE up your Sundays with scrumptious Japanese fare at Sagano, Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur, as the restaurant will be having a Sunday brunch buffet from noon to 4pm, every Sunday.

Diners can select from over 60 different types of sushi, sashimi, grilled items and other dishes on the menu prepared by a team of talented chefs.

Begin your dining experience with a variety of appetisers such as deep-fried potato croquette, fried oysters, deep fried chicken and a tempura selection of mixed vegetables, prawns and soft shell crab.

The soft shell crab tempura was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and made for a burst of flavours in the mouth when dipped in Japanese soy sauce and grated white radish.

Another notable appetiser dish was the Chuuka Fu Idako (simmered and marinated Baby Octopus in Sweet Sesame Flavoured Sauce), and the all-time favourite edamame (blanched fresh soy bean with salt).

At the cold cuts station, sushi and sashimi fans will be spoilt for choice with the nigiri sushi selection consisting of tuna, salmon, grilled eel and squid, as well as the rolled sushi selection of salmon mayonnaise and California roll.

Apart from that, the buffet will have a teppanyaki station serving delights such as the sauteed mixed vegetables, grilled meats and seafood made to order.

For diners who like something hot and soupy, do try the selection of noodles like the udon and soba paired with miso and seafood soup, as well as the self-service hot-pot station where diners can cook their own meat ala steamboat style.

The buffet will also feature a special dish of the day. For the day’s tasting, it was the Tofu Topped with Miso Paste. The tofu had a springy, chewy texture which went well with the savoury miso paste spread on top.

“We will rotate the specialty dish every week, based on feedback from clients on their likes and dislikes,” said sushi chef Mohd Daud Ahmad.

He added that the special thing about the buffet was that clients could also special request for dishes to suit their tastes.

“For example, if they want a dish minus certain ingredients, we can always prepare it for them on the spot,” he explained.

End the meal on a sweet note with a range of desserts including fresh fruits, ice-cream, cakes, pastries, chocolates and traditional Japanese sweet treats such as the mochi and red bean soup.

One of the must-try dishes is the bread pudding, which has a soft and moist, melt-in-the-mouth texture which slips down the throat and just the right amount of sweetness.

The buffet is priced at RM95 nett per person. Diners can also opt for an upgrade to free flow of sake and beer for RM150 nett per person, or free flow of champagne at RM260 nett per person.

Located in the West Wing on the first floor of the Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Sagano Japanese Restaurant is able to accommodate 130 people comfortably and has three tatami rooms and a private dining room in addition to the main area.
