TUCKED amidst a quiet neighbourhood within sight of the Petronas Twin Towers, Rama V offers a good Thai meal in a rustic yet romantic setting.

UOB cardmembers are in for a treat via the UOB Chef’s Creation set menu for lunch and dinner, available from now till Dec 30.

Dinner started off with an appetiser platter consisted flower-shaped dumplings, fresh duck paper rolls and fish cakes.

Out of the three, the dumpling stood out because of its delicate shape and colour that resembled a blossom.

Next, the Yam Som Oo (spicy pomelo salad) was refreshing with bits of pomelo thrown in with some minced chicken and prawns.

Tom yam soup is a must in a Thai dinner and Rama V’s Tom Yam Talay doesn’t disappoint.

The soup was served in a coconut and whetted my appetite for the coming dishes.

“The coconut adds a hint of the sweetness to the soup,” said restaurant managing partner Andre Shum.

The spotlight of the dinner was the main course which had four dishes served with jasmine rice.

“The new dish on this menu is the Marinated Thai Style Satay and goes well the nutty sauce while the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab in Garlic has always been a customer favourite,” said Shum.

Though satay is more of a Malaysian thing, Rama V has managed to make it unique with its sauce which was both sweet and spicy. You can also choose to have either beef or chicken.

Another two dishes served was the Mixed Seafood with Thai Curry Paste as well as Stir Fried Asparagus with Scallops.

To end the meal, indulge in a trio of Thai desserts — Water Chestnut with Coconut Milk, Mango Sticky Rice and Pumpkin Custard.

Chef Sukkaphon Yothaphon said Rama V caters to a wide range of customers.

“We have locals and expatriates eating here so we have adjusted the spiciness of the food to accommodate most taste buds,” he said

Rama V is also offering a set lunch featuring an appetiser platter, Spicy Mango Salad with Cashew Nut, Spicy Chicken Soup, jasmine rice, Dried Curry with Aromatic Herb (beef or chicken), Crispy Red Snapper topped with Three Sauces, Stir Fried Thai Eggplant with Hot Basil Leaf and assorted Thai desserts.
