So, here is a tangyuan recipe you can try – Pumpkin Dumpling with Sago.

Recipe Ingredient

  • For the dough:
  • 200 g pumpkin (cubed)
  • 300 g glutinous rice flour
  • 75 g tapioca flour
  • Enough water to form dough
  • For the coconut milk syrup:
  • 800 ml water
  • 200 g caster sugar
  • 3 pandan leaves
  • 300 ml coconut milk
  • 100 ml evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 100 g pink-coloured sago (soaked for 20 minutes)

    For the dough:
  1. Steam the pumpkin until soft.
  2. Combine the flours and pumpkin in a mixing bowl.
  3. Gradually add enough water to knead into a soft and smooth dough.
  4. For the dumplings:
  5. Pinch dough and form into small balls.
  6. Bring half a pot of water to boil and cook dumplings until they float.
  7. Remove the dumplings with a slotted ladle and soak them in ice-cold water to stop the cooking.
  8. For the coconut milk syrup:
  9. Bring water, sugar and pandan leaves to boil.
  10. Lower heat and add in coconut milk. Stir over low heat for 6-7 minutes. Add the evaporated milk and salt. Discard the pandan leaves.
  11. To cook the sago:
  12. Bring a pot of water to boil and add the sago.
  13. Once water returns to a boil, turn off the heat and cover the pot. Allow sago to steep in the hot water for about 20 minutes.
  14. Tip the sago into a large strainer and place in running tap water to wash away the starch. Drain.
  15. To serve:
  16. Scoop dumplings into individual bowls. Add coconut syrup and sago.
