Recipe Ingredient

  • 750 g fresh blood plums (canned plums can be used, if fresh plums are not available)
  • 1 tbsp. water
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • Topping:
  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 125g butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • icing sugar


  1. Grease a baking dish. Preheat oven to 180 deg. C.
  2. Cut plums in quarters and remove the seeds. Place the plums in a saucepan with the water and sugar and cook over low heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. If using canned plums, do not add extra water or sugar. Just stew the canned plums in its own liquid until just soft.
  4. Spread the plums in the dish.
  5. To make the cobbler:
  6. Sift the two types of flour in a bowl, add sugar. Cut the butter into small pieces and rub it into the mixture.
  7. Beat the egg and milk together and add to the mixture.
  8. When mixture is well combined spoon mixture over the stewed plums.
  9. Bake in preheated oven for 30 - 40 minutes until golden.
  10. Dust with icing sugar and serve warm with cream or ice cream.
