Fried Tempe

Ingredients

5 pieces tempe or fermented soya bean cakes
Enough oil for deep-frying

Seasoning:

1 tsp ground turmeric powder
1 tsp meat curry powder
1 tsp chicken stock granules
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp rice flour
1 tbsp cornflour

Spicy dipping sauce:

2 tbsp Thai chilli sauce
1 tbsp chopped bird chilli (cilipadi)
2 tbsp lemon juice
Pinch of salt or to taste
1 to 2 tbsp fish sauce (nampla)

Method

Cut tempe pieces into 3cm squares. Combine the seasoning ingredients in a mixing bowl and add tempe pieces; toss well. Deep-fry in hot oil till golden and crispy. Serve with dipping sauce.

To make sauce, combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Mix well.
